Comprehensive Exam

Your Exam

Clear vision begins with healthy eyes. At Look + See® Eye Care, your doctor will provide a comprehensive evaluation of your vision and eye health. Our doctors provide eye care that is thorough, comfortable, and accurate.  We are licensed to prescribe medication and treat disease of the eye. If your doctor finds a problem that requires specialty care, we will refer you to the appropriate specialist.

Visual Acuity

This measures how well you can see from a distance. Your doctor will ask you to identify different letters of the alphabet projected on a monitor across the exam room. The lines of type get smaller as you move down the chart.

Screening Visual Field

This is a measurement of your peripheral vision, or vision that is off to the sides, above, and below (rather than directly in front of you). Occasionally, a more in-depth measurement of peripheral vision is needed. Your doctor may order an AUTOMATED VISUAL FIELD EXAM, which is a computerized measurement of peripheral vision used to screen for disease.

Binocular Vision Evaluation

This measures how well your two eyes work together, and is used to detect problems with coordination between the two eyes. Many people experience blur and eyestrain because of a lack of eye muscle coordination. Your doctor may also perform a STEREOPSIS EVALUATION, which measures the ability of your eyes to work together.

Refraction

This is a procedure done by showing a series of lens choices to you to determine the most accurate prescription to provide you with the sharpest, clearest, most comfortable vision.

Pupils + Extraocular Motility

These tests measure the function of your pupils and the muscles that move your eyes to screen for neurological conditions.

Glaucoma Screening

New technology allows us to measure the pressure in your eyes without using drops or the dreaded “air puff” test. Glaucoma is a symptomless disease that can cause blindness, and your exam includes screening for this “silent thief” of sight.

iWellness Screening

Early detection of eye disease is often the key to preventing vision loss. Technology is now available to offer your doctor new information that aids in determining the current health of your eyes, as well as your risk for eye disease later. Click the iWellness tab above to learn more.
