What to Expect From Your Contact Lens Exam

  • Regular eye exam

    During your comprehensive eye exam your optometrist will check that your eyes are healthy and will test your vision to determine your contact lens prescription.

  • Contact lens consultation

    During your contact lens exam your optometrist will check for dry eye symptoms and consult with you to determine what type of contact lenses are the best fit for your lifestyle and vision needs.

  • Contact lens fitting

    For ideal vision correction and comfort, contact lenses must fit well. Your optometrist will examine the size and shape of your cornea and pupil to ensure the right fit.

  • Contact lens trial and follow-up

    Your optometrist will insert trial lenses and ask you to keep them on for 15-20 minutes to be sure the fit is comfortable and vision is clear. After a few days, you'll come in for a follow-up evaluation.

Can dry eye sufferers wear contact lenses?

Usually, yes. While some types of contact lenses can aggravate symptoms of dry eye syndrome, such as eye dryness, redness and irritation, other contacts are perfectly suitable for dry eyes. Speak with an eye doctor near you regarding your dry eye symptoms, and they'll prescribe the perfect contact lenses for ultimate comfort.

Can a child wear contact lenses?

It's a case-by-case basis. Typically, eye doctors don’t prescribe contacts to children under the age of 11 or 12, though there are exceptions. Wearing contact lenses requires responsible care, including cleaning and disinfecting routines. Most teenagers can handle contact lens care if they’re motivated to wear contacts.

Do I need an eye exam and prescription for tinted contact lenses?

Yes! Even if you’re just using contacts to change the color of your eyes, you still need an eye exam and a prescription. Contact lenses are a medical device and require fitting by an eye doctor.

Have been going here for a year and a half now, since 2023. First, the location and interior design ... is fantastic. It’s very spacious and encourages you to linger, and to really enjoy and try out the frames on display. Does not feel like a warehouse like some places do—no, this is much closer to a boutique. When my eyes aren’t dilated, I read some of the fashion magazines they have out… I see Dr. Stidham—no complaints, he’s a pleasant and friendly man. I don’t really have ocular health issues of concern so I can’t speak of what receiving more specialised/intensive care here is like, but I would suspect it’s fine. Joe is one of the assistants and very nice to speak with, too. Angela, Brian, and Rina (front-of-house) are darlings! I always chat up a storm with them and they have great senses of fashion; gotta say, Angela has killer fashion, and Brian knows EXACTLY what I want. Even when I don’t know what I want! Rina was quite kind to my fiancée and made her feel very welcome when she was running late due to a stuck train blocking her commute, and has a sense of humour. It’s quite fun chatting up the other customers here, too, very much salon vibes. Oh! And they throw a Tiny Gallery to support local artists. Really a gem of a place at Riverplace!

first time coming and dr stidham was incredibly nice, friendly and welcoming. he made sure i underst... ood everything, answered all my questions, and made me feel really comfortable. the rest of the staff as super friendly, and the nurse/tech who brought me back was also incredibly nice and she was extremely knowledgeable. super non judgmental and chill office. there’s also free underground parking.

My exam with Dr. Stidham was the most thorough vision exam I have ever had. I had the wellness photo... s done and much to my surprise, a condition was discovered that could down the line cause significant vision loss and will require additional attention from a retinal specialist. I usually have annual eye exams but would never have known about this issue because there are not obvious symptoms. So grateful for the experience, exam, information and understanding.

Dr. Penshorn was thorough, informative and kind. She took the time to listen and made sure to do the... give me the best possible correction. The tech they have is impressive, running you through prescription options efficiently. The staff was helpful (we worked with Brianna) and made sure we got the most of our insurance coverage. There was an issue with my contacts coming in from the manufacture. I called Look + See Eye Care and... see what was going on there team helped figure out where they got stuck and got them to me in less then 48 hours. They also send me additional sample contacts to get me through my week long trip as my original order wasn't going to come in before I was going to leave.
